The new Centre for Advanced Process and Product Innovation, CAPPI, will facilitate the process of bridging the gap between new ideas and industrial implementation.
The paper industry is currently facing big challenges. One potential way of meeting these challenges is to concentrate on coming up with new innovative process technologies for existing production units. Today, there are both new ideas and fundamental knowledge available which, if implemented, could lead to new business opportunities.
Basic research and application oriented research in the paper technology area are both strong features of Swedish research work. The work being done at KTH Mechanics (Department of Mechanics at the Royal Institute of Technology), Stockholm, and Innventia, in collaboration with industrial partners, is central in this research and their activities are at the cutting edge of global research.
In establishing CAPPI, Innventia will create a unique research environment that will lead to innovations in processes and products. At CAPPI, customers’ needs will be met by means of activities ranging from generic research to relevant industrial demonstrations, such as pilot-scale trials.
