SilviScan - Examples of Measurement Results
The figures below examplifies types of information possible to obtain from SilviScan measurements, based on samples from two Maritime pine trees of France, a fast-grown with 16 annual rings (cerise) and a more slow-grown with 30 rings (green).

Radial variations in wood density (air conditioned samples) plotted against radius, resolution 25 µm, with peaks related to the latewood of each growth ring.

The growth rings and their parts of earlywood and latewood are located, averages are calculated for all rings and parts and plotted against ring number. This can be done for all variables analysed.

Radial variation of fibre width (radial direction), resolution 25 µm, with peaks of narrower fibres in latewood (one reason for its higher density).

Radial variation in wood stiffness (est. acoustic MOE). The lower stiffness of the fast-grown wood is due to larger micrifibril angle (measured but not shown).
