Innventia has developed a laboratory system for simultaneously measuring the thickness and the Z-direction stiffness of a sheet. The system is now available for research applications. The sheet is scanned by an XY-translation unit. At each measured position a rod is accelerated towards the sheet and the deceleration is registered as it impinges the sheet. Robust signal handling algorithms give the thickness and the Z-direction stiffness at every measured point across the sheet.
