The Innventia wood and fibre measurement centre is a resource for the entire forest-based sector. The raw wood material can be analysed from a diversity of aspects, including its fibre properties and their effect on the quality of a final product. The centre provides a unique combination of expertise and equipment complemented by a strong network of research groups within the country and abroad (e.g. Skogforsk and SLU in Sweden and the CSIRO in Australia).
The centre offers characterization of wood and fibres utilising methods such as:
- Image analysis of annual ring patterns, fibresm and vessels.
- SilviScan-analysis of fibre cross dimensions, wall thickness, wood density, microfibril angle.
- Fibermaster analysis.
- NIR analysis.
- Various microscopy techniques.
Current projects include studies of a mill wood supply status, data for modelling and simulation of different wood supply options for different products, data for tree improvement programmes.
