Packaging Material Design
Innventia develops interactive papers and packaging materials that change colour and shape in response to various stimuli, which can be used to create smart packaging solutions. Applications extend from enhancing product/brand visibility and quality assurance to self-opening packaging products.

Lightweight packaging solutions based on specially tailored laminates that optimally combine the properties of different materials are currently a focus of significant interest.

Sustainable Packaging Materials

Plastics can now be produced from waste from the energy and food industries, which represents a growing, under-utilised resource. Select process methods and environmentally friendly additives have made it possible to use such waste to make packaging plastics that combine an effective oxygen barrier with built-in, natural, anti-microbial properties.

Other interesting materials with the potential to change the packaging industry include those based on gluten and chitosan (derived from shrimp shells).
