Challenge
The challenge for this paper board oriented cluster is to reduce the grammage of packaging material at a given functional performance i.e. decreased middle-ply density without loss of delamination resistance.
The cluster studies the role of the components of a bulk-ply furnish in creating bulk, demonstrate processes for high bulk structures, study the effects of traditional paper chemicals on bulk, elucidate methods, which will allow the production of high bulking chemical pulp and will provide causal relationships for control of the z-behaviour of paper products from laboratory scale to mill scale.
