Expansion of paper property space with the aid of paper chemistry, new wood-based materials based on nanoelements (nanocellulose/nanoclay) for the forest products industry, particularly products based on renewable polymeric materials and additives.
Goal
The goals are to develop new, renewable nanocellulosics and modified nanoelements that can suit industrial applications for both conventional paper and board materials as well as the conceived new materials. A better understanding of the nature of fibre joint strength will also be targeted, particularly the understand of how the paper property space is affected by conventional dry strength adjuvants as well as new approaches such as CMC-grafting and layer-by layering technologies.
