One of the greatest challenges for pulp and paper mills in the coming years is to maintain or improve profitability despite increasing cost of energy. At the same time, exploitation of the potential to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and increased use of renewable fuels represents one of the best opportunities for the industry.

 

Goal

The goal is to identify and develop cost-effective technologies that can reduce energy use in the major unit operations of the pulp and paper mill, or increase the value of by-products and side streams as energy, and apply at least two of these concepts in a mill environment.
