 |
Regional funding enabled this project. The DPCOM was a research programme performed at the Örnsköldsvik site of STFI-Packforsk.
The main objectives of the EU-project were:
- To strengthen the research capacity of the region by the establishment of the institute.
- Together with the Digital Printing Centre within the Mid Sweden University build a competence centre of excellence within the area of Digital Printing Technology.
- To strengthen the competitiveness of the related industries.

To achieve the objectives the work was carried out in a research program during 2002 - 2005 under the heading of:
“Market Potential and business models for digital Print technology – development of future applications”.
The work is focused on development of new business ideas and models and driven by market demands. Digital printing technology itself or in combination with the established printing methods are basis for the research.
The research was divided into three main areas of interest:
Background Digital Printing Technology
The driving forces for the digital printing technology:
- Web-to-print: the possibility to design and order the printed product directly from the web.
- Print-on-demand: to have the product printed at the time and with as many copies as wanted.
- Variable data: the possibility to print, if wanted, every single print copy uniquely for each customer or a group of customers.
- Distributed print: the possibility to distribute data from one place and print it, where ever you want, world-wide.
