The most important environmental requirement of a packaging is to protecting the product until it is used.

 

The Trade & Industry Group Miljöpack was started by Swedish industry with the objective to help companies work with environmental demands in an effective way. In the beginning the group focused mainly on the essential requirements of EU's Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive, which gives construction requirements. 

 

Today the group also covers issues related to the packaging and environmental area as Carbon Footprint and food waste. Since packaging is still often regarded as an environmental burden, Miljöpack also works to spread information of the purpose of packaging and how it could act as a saver of resources.

  

To contribute to a dialogue about packaging and the environment the group has arranged several seminars focused on different actual issues as Carbon Footprint and Sustainability. The seminars are held in Swedish. The last seminar about the global work to develop ISO-standardization about Packaging and environment was held on November 18, 2009.
