ESG - European Sack Research Group

A European research group devoted to improving the competitiveness of paper sacks

Objectives of ESG

  • To establish a scientific knowledge base and present facts to support lobbying business in Eurosac and CEPI Eurokraft
  • To provide models and tools that support individual member companies in their development of the paper sack system
  • To help and support members to comply with new directives and legislation in the kraft paper and paper sack areas.

Ongoing projects 2011

ESG LCI and Carbon Footprint study
Innventia and Innventia EDGE have updated the LCI and Carbon Footprint data for the kraft paper and paper sacks. The update is based on data from 2009. News this time is that in the Carbon Footprint study we have calculated all ten toes in the CEPI Guide. It means that we have, amongst others, also looked at forest sequestration.   The update of the studies is made every two years

ESG Food Contact Guidelines
The ESG Food Contact Guidelines were launched in the beginning of 2007. The objective is to provide the members with practical guidelines on how to comply with the legislation concerning paper sacks intended to come into contact with foodstuffs (directly or indirectly). During 2011 the new Plastics Implementation Measures directive has been implemented. The ESG Food Contact Guidelines will now be updated due to this new directive. Also coordination wil be done woth the update of CEP/CITPA Industrial Guidelines for food contact.

Financing
ESG's activities are jointly financed by the trade organisations Eurosac and Cepi Eurokraft. Innventia leads the research work in close co-operation with the participating trade organisations and other available experts.
