Edge is applying Eternal, our suite of environment and sustainability consultancy services, to support a major European household and personal care brand owner to understand the environmental and sustainability dimensions of the packaging they use for their products.
Packaging sustainability in the spotlight
There are many reasons why sustainability of packaging is in the spotlight. Environmental issues, especially climate change, have captured the consumers’ imagination, and governments have responded with regulations, eco-taxes, standards and voluntary agreements. In the UK, the Courtauld Commitment (a voluntary agreement signed by many of the leading retailers and brand owners) has provided a major impetus for packaging reduction. In the US, the introduction of the Walmart packaging scorecard has raised the bar, putting packaging sustainability at the heart of packaging buyers’ priorities.
Design for improvement
There are many facets to improving the sustainability of packaging, from sourcing and choosing raw materials, optimizing the use of materials and the supply chain wastes, designing for recyclability, and managing the carbon footprint.
Designing packaging for reduced environmental impact is a central part of the Edge packaging design and innovation process. For more information about Eternal environment and sustainability consultancy services, contact
