Test printing at Innventia

We can carry out lab-scale and pilot-scale printing trials. Our experience also reaches beyond these to full-scale printing, which we often plan and carry out together with our customers. Our lab methods are based largely on knowledge from full-scale printing, and have been developed to focus on phenomena and properties such as ink mileage, ink setting, set-off, sharpness, adhesion, various types of print mottle (back trap and water-induced print mottle), missing dots, particle build-up (lint) and dusting.

We can offer printing using the following lab presses:

  • Offset: ISIT (Ink Surface Interaction Tester), IGT, Prüfbau
  • Flexographic: IGT F1 Printability Tester
  • Inkjet: test print and office printers

Pilot facility for evaluating the runnability of offset printing and inkjet printing

Innventia's facility for testing paper and board webs, LINDA, includes an offset printing unit and an inkjet rig which allows for controlled printing trials. The conditions are very similar to full-scale printing. With LINDA one can conduct hybrid-printing trails when the offset and inkjet units are in operations either simultaneously (in-line) or separately (offline).

One major application for the offset printing unit is online analyses of how particles build up on the rubber blanket. We often help with analyses where the customer wants to compare different paper qualities or see how various consumables (such as dampening solutions, printing ink and rubber blankets) affect the process.

As well as analysing particle build-up, the LINDA equipment can also be used for runnability issues such as web breaks and dynamic strain in MD and CD directions.

The inkjet rig enables us to evaluate high-speed printing, different inks (both water-based and UV-curing) and, of course, comparisons between different substrates.

Up to seven print heads can be used in the inkjet rig, allowing for high print speeds. We can offer printing using both water-based and UV-hardening ink.
