Print mottle can occur with all printing techniques (offset, flexography, gravure and inkjet). Our method calculates a value which reflects how disruptive the print mottle is.
Print mottle on unprinted board and paper with a white top layer and a brown middle layer can also be measured (white-top mottle). The method can measure uncovered area (UCA) in flexo, optical formation, and missing dots in gravure printing can be analysed using a separate software module.
The method uses an ordinary flatbed scanner, and is easy to implement.
