Fibre orientation

Fibre orientation in a sheet of paper or board can now be measured at local level, with the sheet first being split into thin layers using a laminator. Each layer is then scanned at high resolution, after which the local fibre orientation is calculated in 2x2 mm² squares across the surface. Visualisation software can give an overview of how the fibre orientation varies within the sheet.

The method uses a flatbed scanner and a laminator.
